Eternal Pearl

As you meditate on the largest moon in almost twenty years ( don’t forget to join us at the Op Shop on Sunday to celebrate the solstice (see the calendar or the previous post)

“Eternal Pearl”

The full moon comes,

Every now and then,

As a reminder.

Perhaps, if we saw her in her fullness each night

We would take her for granted,

Pay less attention to the memories she brings.

And we modern people—

Especially Americans—

Are so good at forgetting.

She reminds me that there is beauty

In light that shines

Without obscuring other lights;

Reminds me of my ancestors,

Telling stories in the moonlight;

Of the rhythm of the ocean;

Of my mother’s body, nourishing me.

Maybe it is the ambient light that makes us so keen to forget,

Or maybe the TVs, telephones and other technologies

Buzzing in our ears,

Distracting us,

Rendering us so easy to control.

I am grateful, however,

That none of this will ever keep her, l’eterna margarita,

From rising,

Full and pregnant with soft, luminous reminders

Each month.

Full Moon, September 2008

  1. Beautiful!

    Were you influenced by the work of Matt Fox?

    • Barbara,

      Thanks so much and yes, I studied with Matt at Wisdom University, then worked with him on the YELLAWE project. My organization, the Chicago Wisdom Project ( still collaborates with him. We are presenting together at the Creation Spirituality Communities Conference in Chicago in June (see my calendar).
